A theatre of God's Glory
Last Wednesday at our Staff Meeting, Dr. Scott Rae was invited to share a devotional with all of the employees. His discussion centered around the sentiment that only those who are in the Pastorate or Church Staff are truly in "Full Time Ministry". He went on to say that this train of thought eventually leads to the idea that everyone else is a 2nd class Christian compared to pastors.
Dr. Rae then reminded us that everyone has been called to Full Time Ministry in that with everything we endeavor to do, we do for the Glory of God... especially with our vocations. The individual whose vocation is to be a doctor is there because the Lord has called him/her to that line of work at that particular time. The same goes for those of us who work as electricians, lawyers, bankers, etc.
As a former pastor, I have often felt the sting of people's comments asking when I was going to leave the secular world and go back into Full Time Ministry. The sting is not because they are purposely trying to insult me, but rather the perception that non-ministry vocations are void of any spiritual significance... as if God grants extra grace on those who work as pastors.
Dr. Rae made the statement that the entirety of my life is a theatre of God's Glory. "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God", 1 Corinthians 10:31. As a banker, I am still called to work with utmost diligence and integrity... the same goes for a pastor, or a High School teacher, or a fireman, etc.
We live our lives Coram Deo... before the Face of God. And He has called us to present our lives as a living sacrifice for His glory.
