First snow storm experience...

Here are some pictures of the first snow storm we experienced as Coloradians.
We got about a foot and a half of snow that day... which is not bad, but enough to make people adjust their daily activity plans. We have yet to see the pool, which is right in front of our apartment. Typically, it's warm enough that the snow melts away in a day or so because we are at about 6,000 ft above sea level, the sunlight is much more intense. But the weather here has been so cold that the snow just keeps building up. Even the locals here say that this has been the most intense winter they have seen in about 15 years. Oh well... just gotta bundle up and stay inside with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

Can you find our car in this lineup?
You have to plan ahead in the morning if you leave your car outside instead of keeping it in a garage. It takes time to warm up the car and brush off the snow and ice from the windshields. Leather seats are so cold in the morning! Keeping a pair of gloves in the car is a must.

It's nice to have a 4x4 car in CO, which would help you to get out of heavy snow... but when you're dealing with icy roads, it makes no difference. A front wheel drive car is fine. Just drive carefully, don't tailgate, don't slam on your brakes, and take your turns slow. I've seen quite a few accidents on the I-25 since I started making the communte to Colorado Springs. Many of these wrecks involve big 4x4 SUV's. I think people believe that they are invincible in those big cars. But black ice trumps them all.
