Spiritual Giants of our time...
Both R.C. Sproul and Alistair Begg are two Christian leaders that have been instrumental in my personal faith journey. It was through the teaching fellowship of these two men that I was introduced to Reformed Theology and by which my spiritual life really flourished. They are in my opinion, the spiritual giants of our time.
Recently, Alistair was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and not too long ago R.C. suffered a stroke which he has not fully recovered from. It's sad to hear about their health issues, yet I'm reminded of the Apostle Paul's eternal perspective of earthly life in Philippians 1:21 "To live is Christ, and to die is gain." I'm thankful for the teaching ministries of these two prominent men... whose Christ-centered sermons and lessons will be passed on to future generations via CD's & DVD's.
It's sobering to be reminded of the reality that this place is not our home, even though we'll spend a lifetime building up our earthly treasures here. C.S. Lewis was right when he said to the effect that we are like kids who feel satisfied playing in the mud and eating mud pies, when the Glory of Christ and our heavenly inheritance is right in front of us. We are far too easily pleased.
Pray for the health of Alistair & R.C. But more importantly, pray that the Lord will continue to raise up men to take their place and carry the baton of preaching Christ to the next generation.
