This past Saturday Emmy and I met up with a couple that we recently met that lives in Lyons, CO. Lyons is a small town (population approximately 2,000) that is about 30 minutes from Estes Park. Alex & Lisa are from SoCal and moved out to CO about 8 years ago for Alex's job. Both of them are Taiwanese, which makes them quite an anomaly in basically an all-Caucasian town of 2,000. Yet at the same time, they are both outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Their garage is full of snowboards, mountain bikes, road bikes, snowshoes, camping & backpacking gear, etc. Both of them are quite physically fit which is a challenge to us because we are typical couch potatoes that love to watch TV and snack on junk food. But I digress...

Anyhow, this past Saturday Alex & Lisa took us snowshoeing at the Rocky Mountain National Park for a few hours. We were skeptical at first (probably because of our lack of fitness) but we actually had a ton of fun! Starting out, we followed a flat trail/road that hugged the side of the mountain, but after a while we hiked up into the trees and began to traverse the incline of the mountain in 3+ feet of untouched powder. The inclines were a challenge, but it felt good to push ourselves.

We stopped occasionally to catch our breath and to drink water. We also had time to goof around and make snow angels.
Afterwards, we went to Estes Park to get some coffee and then back to Alex & Lisa's house for a home cooked meal (sticky rice & homemade dumplings... delicious!). It was a very good day.
